We have exciting news for our valued Greene Realty DeLand customers and the DeLand community about the historic Artisan Downtown Hotel in the heart of DeLand’s downtown. Greene Realty DeLand recently facilitated the sale of the Artisan Downtown Hotel and it is now under brand new ownership!
We would like to take this opportunity to honor and commemorate the extraordinary legacy of the Patel family, the previous owners of the Artisan Downtown Hotel which holds a special place in the history of Greene Realty, and to officially welcome Cannes Investments LLC as the new owners.
The Patel Family’s Impact on the Artisan
Sara and Hina Patel, who grew up in the hotel industry alongside their father, S. B., brought their experience, passion, and expertise to the Artisan Downtown Hotel, which they acquired in 2013, following their successful ownership of the University Inn, which was sold to Steson University back in 2012 (West Volusia Beacon, 2024).
The Patel family’s commitment to maintaining and improving the Artisan Downtown Hotel was clear from the beginning when they undertook the hotel’s renovation. Constructed in 1921, the building has been meticulously renovated to incorporate contemporary amenities while maintaining its historic charm. The addition of “The Lounge,” a lively venue for live music and craft cocktails, turned the downtown scene into something special. Hina Patel stated, “We’re doing renovations to every floor,” demonstrating their commitment to continuously maintaining the hotel’s historical integrity while adding modern amenities.
Following the makeover, The Artisan rose to prominence as one of DeLand’s boutique hotels and has since become a beloved hangout for both tourists and residents.
Greene Realty DeLand Welcomes Cannes Investments LLC
A new era begins for the Artisan Downtown Hotel as they transition into the new ownership of Cannes Investments LLC, led by Kurt Macdonald. MacDonald owns lodging investments in South Florida and was drawn to DeLand’s unique charm and the Artisan’s historical significance. Having stayed at the Artisan on multiple occasions, Macdonald was enthralled with its character and saw great things ahead for the hotel (West Volusia Beacon, 2024).
Macdonald says the hotel will retain its heritage as a “boutique gem” while undergoing some thoughtful renovations. In order to improve the experience of future visitors to the Artisan Downtown Hotel, Macdonald intends to implement some building upgrades and improve the landscape. According to Macdonald, “The attraction to DeLand is undeniable, and I look forward to The Artisan’s continued success and its contribution to DeLand’s award-winning downtown”.
Greene Realty DeLand’s Connection and Tribute
We at Greene Realty DeLand have a long-standing relationship with the Patel family and the Artisan Downtown Hotel. My uncle, Robert Greene and I , forged a personal and professional relationship with Sara and Hina Patel while we shared offices at the University Inn and the Artisan. Reflecting upon this journey, Solomon Greene revealed, “The Patels are like family to me. My uncle Robert and I had offices in both the University Inn and the Artisan, so I feel like I grew up with them in a way” (West Volusia Beacon, 2024).
When Greene Realty DeLand was contacted by the Patels to sell the Artisan Downtown Hotel, they endeavored to find a buyer who would respect the hotel’s rich history and carry on its legacy. Kurt MacDonald was the clear choice because he shared our goals for the hotel’s future. “We wanted a buyer that appreciated the historic building and its legacy for our downtown. Kurt turned out to fit this vision to a tee” according to Solomon Greene from Greene Realty DeLand.
